Dystopia, installation, glass and resin, 2013
Dystopia can be thought of as an imagined state, an illusion of an ideal utopian world. This work uses redundant industrial glass to express alarm concern with the destructive impact of human economic progress on natural environments. The seductive and glittering quality of this waste material draws us to shimmering reflected light as if it were a precious material. Broken particles speak of the fragility of human life, the futility of aspirational desire, and the unexpected beauty to be found in superseded, derelict and discarded waste materials.
