Anthropocene, HD video, 2015

The word Anthropocene captures the idea that humans have become a geological force altering the climate and pushing other species to the brink of extinction. The video work is shot on location in a 1915 industrial coal fired power station repurposed as a glassmaking facility. Sheets of industrial glass, representing human progress and protection from natural forces are used to speak of the increased speed, growth and pressure exerted on our fragile planet, Earth. I use the sound and imagery of shattering glass to create spectacle, to question human complicity, to disrupt patterns of thought and behaviour.
